The Victorian Small Business Commission 2016-17 Annual Report was tabled in Parliament on 18 October 2017.

The report details the VSBC’s performance during 2016-17, including a 4.6 per cent increase in the number of disputes referred to the VSBC during the year.

Just over 1700 dispute applications were referred to the VSBC in 2016-2017 with 31 per cent resolved by VSBC staff before going to mediation.

For those matters proceeding to mediation, the VSBC’s mediation success rate was 80 per cent, with a customer satisfaction rating sitting at 95 per cent.

The VSBC also introduced a number of important initiatives during the year. These included the launch with Melbourne Water of Small Business Engagement Guidelines to better identify small businesses affected by major works and give them a say in the planning of these projects, and the launch of a mental health strategy to help address potential mental health issues for small business operators and their employees.
