Meet the Commissioner

Tim Symons is the Interim Victorian Small Business Commissioner.

Interim Commissioner Tim Symons

Tim is leading the Victorian Small Business Commission (VSBC) while the recruitment process is underway to appoint the next Commissioner. His substantive role is Director of the Office of the Deputy Secretary, Skills and TAFE.

Tim is a public sector leader with extensive experience in fostering small business resilience and driving vocational education and training (VET) reforms. Throughout his career, Tim has held senior executive roles across government, TAFE, and the private sector and has led  policy development and the delivery of programs.

As a senior leader at Small Business Victoria, Tim oversaw bushfire and COVID-19 recovery programs for Victorian businesses and worked on initiatives for the economic inclusion of diverse small business operators including culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) entrepreneurs, LGBTIQA+ business leaders and Aboriginal small business operators.

Tim speaks English and Japanese and has led multicultural teams in Japan and Singapore in addition to Victoria. He holds an MBA and a Bachelor of Arts.
