Drouin business owners will have direct access to government support and advice at a small business pop-up information centre in town next Friday 4 May.

The event is part of the Grow Your Business, Together series and will provide business owners and operators with the chance to have their questions answered by local, state and federal government agencies and small business mentors all in one location.

According to Victorian Small Business Commissioner, Judy O’Connell, the idea for the pop-up information centre came from local businesses themselves.

“At a small business roundtable held last year, Gippsland small business owners said they wanted visibility and easy access to available government assistance,” Ms O’Connell said.

“Small business owners told us there was so much information and support out there and they didn’t know how to find what was really important.

“Working together, business owners and government officials then developed the ‘Grow your Business, Together’ initiative, which includes nine small business breakfasts and five information pop-up centres across Gippsland from March to May.

“The events across Baw Baw Shire and Latrobe City to-date have been a huge success and we look forward to seeing Drouin business owners and operators make use of the face-to-face support.”

The Drouin pop-up will be held at Memorial Park, Princes Way, Drouin (next to Middels Restaurant) on Friday 4 May from 10am-1pm.

It will feature representatives from Victorian Small Business Commission, Latrobe Valley Authority, Australian Securities and Investments Commission, Consumer Affairs Victoria, Rural Financial Counsellors, Regional Development Victoria, Sustainability Victoria, Australian Taxation Office, and more.

“If you want advice on employing staff, reducing your energy bills, starting a business, or anything else, we will have people who can answer your questions,” Ms O’Connell said.

“A lot of small businesses also don’t realise they may be eligible for reimbursement of the government fees they paid to start their business, or those paid to expand their business if it led to increased job opportunities.

“The pop-up information centre is a great place to find out if you’re entitled to a reimbursement.”

No bookings are required and a free sausage sizzle will be provided to all business owners who attend.

Short presentations from each agency will take place from 10:30am.

The pop-up information centre is part of ‘Small Business Day’ in Drouin, which will also feature a free breakfast at Drouin Golf and Country Club.

The Grow Your Business, Together events are supported by the Victorian Small Business Commission and Latrobe Valley Authority.
