At a small business roundtable held last year, Latrobe Valley small business owners said they wanted visibility and easy access to available government assistance.

According to Victorian Small Business Commissioner, Judy O’Connell, working together, business owners and government officials have developed the ‘Grow your Business, Together’ initiative.

The initiative includes pop-up information centres for businesses across the Latrobe Valley and Gippsland. The next pop-ups will be held in Traralgon and Morwell next week.

“Small business owners told us there was so much information and support out there and they didn’t know how to find what was really important,” Ms O’Connell said.

Pop-up information centres at Post Office Place/Traralgon Courthouse in Franklin Street, Traralgon on Tuesday 17 April and Legacy Place in Commercial Road, Morwell on Wednesday 17 April will provide business owners with support at a ‘one-stop-shop’ from 10am-1pm.

Business owners will be able to have their questions answered by local, state and federal government agencies and small business mentors all under one roof.

The pop-up centre will feature representatives from Victorian Small Business Commission, Latrobe Valley Authority, Australian Securities and Investments Commission, Consumer Affairs Victoria, Rural Financial Counsellors, Regional Development Victoria, Sustainability Victoria, Australian Taxation Office, and more.

“If you want advice on employing staff, reducing your energy bills, starting a business, or anything else, we will have people who can answer your questions,” Ms O’Connell said.

“A lot of small businesses in the Latrobe Valley also don’t realise they may be eligible for reimbursement of the government fees they paid to start their business, or those paid to expand their business if it led to increased job opportunities.

“The pop-up information centre is a great place to find out if you’re entitled to a reimbursement.”

No bookings are required and a free sausage sizzle will be provided to all business owners who attend.

Short presentations from each agency will take place between 10:30am and 12:00pm.

The pop-up information centre is part of ‘Small Business Day’ in Traralgon and Morwell, which will also feature free breakfasts at Premiere Function Centre and Morwell Bowling Club.

Grow Your Business, Together breakfasts will also be held in Trafalgar on Thursday 19 April and Moe on Thursday 3 May.

To register your seat at the breakfasts, go to and search ‘Grow Your Business, Together’ to find the event if your town. You must be registered to attend.
